Serie FR-CADN/294PO/B - “Series B, Thematic files of the French consulate in Palestine and Emirate of Transjordan”

Global extent: 300 files; first 71 files are described

As explained in the collection description, the current series A and B were at first only one series (see the old inventory). The 56 first boxes have been reorganized into 140 items by curator Agnès Pouillon and now constitutes series A. The following boxes have been reassigned numbers from 1 to 299 and now constitutes series B. This one is divided into two subseries : the first one includes documents dated from 1840 to 1914 ; second one includes documents dated from 1914 to 1941.

Transfer : the old fonds (1840-1944) was sent back to Paris on the 26th of january 1978.

The B series includes thematic files. Beside the regular correspondence with the French Foreign Office, the French Embassy, the French local authorities, or the French and foreign Consulates and vice-consulates, the series includes many files dealing with the Ottoman administration about economic issues (bank, post and customs offices, shipping delivery service) and about military and legal issues.
Despite a few missing files, records include many documents dealing with the political context in Palestine and the Ottoman and Muslim issues. There are also notes from Beirut and Jerusalem intelligence services.
