The orthodox agha of Jenin is powerless against the latin agha, who was appointed by bribery in order to convert orthodox people. In addition, the orthodox mukhtar became a Protestant, even though he is officially recognised by the government as an orthodox mukhtar. He have advised him on many occassions to return to the church but he refuses to do so, unless the priest gives him half of the salary he receives from the Holy Community. But because the priest refuses to make this sacrifice, the mukhtar continues to try to persecute the Orthodox people and requests from the Kaymakam [a high administrative official] in Jenin to relieve him of his duties and appoint another orthodox, because if he continues in this position, all the Orthodox people will be converted.
