Scope and content
This is to announce to all butchers that according to a report dated on the 11th of Kânûn Awwal given by the officer in charge of animals in Jerusalem, all meat to be sold has to be stamped by the mentioned officer as a proof of inspection by the municipal administration. If any meat is not stamped, it will be taken and if the officer’s examination of it reveals that it is unfit for eating, it will be confiscated and discarded, and a money fine will be asked for. If it is found fit for eating but unstamped, only the money fine will be taken. Furthermore, it appears that some butchers slaughter outside of the slaughterhouse, so it is necessary to pursue them legally. So all butchers must not slaughter at all outside of the slaughterhouse, and whoever does not abide by these rules makes himself punishable, so beware not to disobey. In order for this to be known, these directions were published on the 13th of Kânûn Awwal (1)322 (26th of December 1906).
